The Guest House Ocala

A founder-led trauma programme on 52 private Florida acres, treating addiction as a survival response rather than a diagnosis, in a small shared community.

About The Guest House Ocala

The Guest House Ocala treats addiction, process addiction, disordered eating, anxiety and depression as survival responses to complex, developmental or attachment trauma rather than as primary conditions. It was founded in 2016 by two co-founders on a 52-acre private estate in Silver Springs, north-central Florida, and the work is deliberately experiential: psychodrama, somatic therapy, EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, core energetics, breathwork, equine and eco therapy, with a functional-medicine layer over the top. The medical bench is unusual for a small estate: a Medical Director who leads the medical staff, a Functional Medical Director, a Director of Psychiatric Services, a consulting psychiatrist, a Director of Nursing and two advanced practice nurses. Guests live across three converted buildings and share community space, dining and group work, which is a clinical choice rather than a compromise. Neither price nor capacity nor the insurance position is published.

Clinic overview

Founded
A third-party profile written for the clinic gives 2016 and ten years in operation. The clinic's own site states no founding year. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Staff per client
The homepage states that the clinic is fully staffed to ensure a three-to-one resident to clinician ratio. No headcount behind that figure is published and no independent source corroborates it.
Languages
English. No other language is published on any page captured. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Licence
No licence number appears on the clinic's own site, which shows regulator and accreditation logos only. Florida state facility registers could not be retrieved, so the state licence class is not register-verified. The accredited levels of care are the closer question for a reader, and those are on the accreditor's record. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Accreditations
The Joint Commission accredits the entity for Behavioral Health Care and Human Services, with levels of care recorded as medically managed inpatient services, clinically managed high-intensity residential services for adults and high intensity outpatient services. The record was read through a search index because the accreditor's page refused automated access, so it is partially verified.
Length of stay
The residential programme states a minimum 30-day stay with 90 days preferred, and the clinic argues on its own FAQ for longer stays, framing short stays as crisis stabilisation. A blog post describes length of stay as guided by clinical progress rather than a preset calendar.

Treatments

Residential Treatment Program

Minimum 30 days, 90 days preferred

-

The flagship programme, with full-time staff and 24-hour care. Guests move through orientation, an experiential trauma-processing phase using psychodrama, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, EMDR, somatic and equine work, and a consolidation phase with family work and continuing-care planning. Group work sits at the centre of the model alongside individual therapy, by design rather than by economics. No session count or weekly schedule is published.

Detox Program

Clinically determined, at the start of the stay

-

Medically managed inpatient detoxification is an accredited level of care at this site, so withdrawal management happens on the estate rather than elsewhere. The clinic states that its detox facility is staffed with a medical and nursing team available 24 hours, and new arrivals spend the first night under medical observation before moving into the Main House or the cottages.

Chronic Relapse Treatment

Within the residential stay

Included in the residential programme

Not a separately priced product. It is positioned for people who have completed other programmes without durable change, on the clinic's argument that untreated trauma rather than insufficient abstinence work drove the relapse. The published description promises intensive one-to-one clinical sessions and a low client-to-clinician ratio without giving a count for either.

Functional Medicine

Throughout the stay

Included in the residential programme

A Functional Medical Director oversees advanced diagnostic testing for nutrient deficiencies, hormone shifts, gut health and inflammation, and root-cause plans with targeted supplements, nutrition strategies and prescriptions where needed. He is stated to meet weekly with psychiatry, therapy and addiction specialists to coordinate care. The clinic does not state when in the stay this testing happens.

Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization

Ongoing

-

Both are accredited levels of care delivered at the same address by the clinic's own outpatient team, and the clinic states they may serve as a transitional step after residential treatment. The outpatient team page states that the clinic works with each client and their family to ensure home life supports a sober lifestyle.

Alumni Program

Ongoing after discharge

No fee published

Alumni and group meetings, online sessions for remote support and relapse prevention support, with participation described as flexible, plus an annual alumni weekend held on the estate at no charge for food or events. Duration and any written aftercare plan are not published.

Our assessment

The review base is modest and unremarkable in a way that reads as genuine. Two directory listings report the same Google profile at 4.2 from roughly 55 to 58 reviews, counted on different dates, so the two figures are one corpus and must not be added together. A listing on a second consumer platform shows 22 reviews and 72 photos, updated September 2026, but the page refused automated access so no rating is recorded. No Trustpilot listing was found. Roughly 55 reviews at 4.2 over ten years of small cohorts is a plausible volume with a plausible spread, and a good rather than glowing rating is itself a mark of authenticity. No pattern suggesting manipulation was found. The composite scores that directories attach to their own listings are index numbers built from listings and accreditations rather than client ratings, and are not quoted here.

A bylined regional magazine feature of 31 October 2019 describes the estate and carries no sponsorship label. No first-hand bylined reporting from inside the facility was found within the last five years.

The founders received a lifetime achievement award from a recovery-community gala, which the clinic presents as an honour rather than as accreditation. No clinical or accrediting authority has given an award, and none is claimed.

Facility

A 52-acre privately owned estate in Silver Springs, near the Ocala National Forest, with gardens, wooded nature paths and a pond. Three residential buildings: the Main House, the hub, holding shared living areas, the dining room and several of the therapy rooms; the Carriage House, restored, with additional guest rooms; and the Backhouse, described by the clinic as a retreat within a retreat with separate amenities and treatment space. Guest rooms are private. Amenities include a gym available year round, putting greens, a frisbee golf course, pickleball and basketball courts, a firepit gathering area, walking trails, and on-site massage and acupuncture. Horses and tree-covered equestrian trails support the equine programme. Housekeeping, transportation and supervised outside shopping are provided. The setting is inland Florida woodland: quiet and green, with no water or mountain views. Shared community space in the Main House is intrinsic to the model rather than a compromise on it. The clinic publishes a drive time of about an hour and a quarter to Orlando and names no hospital or emergency department.

Food

An in-house chef prepares organic meals made fresh on the estate from locally grown produce, and the menu caters to dietary needs including kosher, vegetarian and vegan. The chef is not named and no culinary credential is published. No dietitian or nutritionist appears anywhere on the staff pages. Nutritional work runs instead through the functional-medicine track, which publishes advanced diagnostic testing for nutrient deficiencies, hormone shifts, gut health and inflammation, and root-cause plans with targeted supplements and nutrition strategies. The clinic does not state that the meal plan is built from those results, does not describe how the kitchen receives a plan, and publishes no nutrition assessment on admission or monitoring during the stay. No food-hygiene inspection record was located.

Privacy

one to one therapy

The strongest separation established here is one-to-one therapy, and the clinic does not claim more. Guests occupy private rooms inside three shared buildings, group therapy is a core modality, and the Main House holds shared living areas and a shared dining room. Guests share the gym, the courts, the firepit, the equestrian programme and supervised outings, and meet each other by design: the trauma-community model depends on it. What is missing is not the model but the documentation around it. No confidentiality measure beyond statute is named: no staff non-disclosure policy, no separate-arrival protocol, no phone or photography policy that protects other guests and no dedicated team per guest is published, and the clinic's own FAQ does not address privacy. A blog post frames privacy as a clinical necessity and says guests decide who is told what and when, which is a principle rather than a mechanism, and the privacy policy rests on federal health-privacy law, which is statute. The unresolved insurance position compounds this. Because the clinic states nothing about whether it bills commercial insurance, a prospective client cannot establish from published sources whether a stay would generate a payer claims trail. That is worth settling in writing before admission.

The Residential Treatment Program page lists shared and private rooms among the programme inclusions, so shared bedrooms are offered, and group therapy with shared living areas in the Main House is a core part of the programme, which meets band 2. Band 3 requires all bedrooms private, which the programme page contradicts, although the homepage lists private rooms as an amenity. The private-pay statement would count as a measure beyond statute only at band 4, which also requires all bedrooms private. No sole-occupancy tier is published, and no capacity deduction applies because the clinic publishes no capacity figure.

The Florida DCF licensing search shows active Inpatient Detoxification and Residential Level 2 components at 3230 NE 55th Ave, expiring 19 December 2026, and the Joint Commission list records the operator as accredited for behavioural health care including medically managed inpatient and residential levels. A Medical Director leads the medical staff, a board-certified internist serves as Functional Medical Director, and detox is on site. The stated 24-hour cover names a medical and nursing team, not a physician or psychiatrist on site or on call at night, so night physician cover is not credited. Licence, medical lead and three further elements give band 7; band 8 would need a fourth, and no named hospital escalation route or programme for severe mental illness is published.

The only screening published before a client commits is a 30 to 45 minute call with the admissions team, whose named staff hold non-clinical qualifications, and the detox page describes an arrival assessment without naming an assessor. No psychiatric assessment by a psychiatrist, no physician examination, no dated admission laboratory panel and no written formulation delivered to the client is published, which keeps the clinic below band 3.

Individual therapy is published with no session count, length or frequency, and group therapy with no frequency or share of the schedule. The team is pooled at a stated three-to-one resident to clinician ratio, and 24-hour cover is scoped to the detox facility, so no clinician is stated to stay overnight in the residence. Length of stay is clinically extendable, with a 30-day minimum and 90 days preferred, so no cap applies, but no one-to-one hours are established to reach band 4.

Frequently asked questions

What does treatment at The Guest House Ocala cost?

Not published, at any level of care. The clinic's own FAQ omits cost entirely, and no per-programme price appears anywhere on its site. A cost is quoted only after the admissions assessment call. The insurance position is not published either: the clinic says nothing about whether it bills commercial insurance, and third-party listings contradict each other on the point. Ask for the fee, what it includes, the terms on extension and early departure, and the insurance position in writing before committing, because none of that is published.

Where is the clinic and what is the setting?

On a 52-acre private estate at 3230 NE 55th Avenue, Silver Springs, Florida, in Marion County next to Ocala and near the Ocala National Forest. The address is corroborated on the accreditor's own record. The clinic publishes a distance of about 75 miles to Orlando with an average drive of an hour and a quarter. It names no hospital or emergency department and publishes no travel time to one, stating only a partnership with nearby medical centres for emergency or specialty care.

Who is the clinic designed for?

Adults whose addiction, process addiction, disordered eating, anxiety or depression sits on top of complex, developmental or attachment trauma, including people who have completed other programmes without durable change. The programme is experiential and community-based, so it suits someone prepared to work in groups and to share living and dining space. It is not a single-client environment and does not suit anyone who requires no contact with other clients. The clinic states it treats adults over 18 and publishes no statement of conditions it will not take.

How does admission work?

Admission opens with a phone call and pre-treatment assessment run by the admissions team, for which the clinic asks callers to set aside 30 to 45 minutes, covering substance use, mental health, trauma, medical conditions, medications and family dynamics. The admissions staff named on the site hold non-clinical qualifications, and no clinician is named as conducting that assessment. Paperwork, including the privacy policy, follows. New arrivals spend the first night in the medical facility for observation before moving to the Main House or the cottages, and each arrival is assessed for substance use history, symptoms, mental health concerns and goals, with no assessor named. The Director of Admissions states that she will help place callers in other programmes where this one is not appropriate.

What happens after discharge?

The clinic runs its own intensive outpatient and partial hospitalisation programming at the same address, presented as a transitional step after residential treatment and staffed in part by the residential clinical team, which gives it a continuum most facilities of this size have to outsource. An alumni programme offers alumni and group meetings, online sessions for remote support and relapse prevention support, with participation described as flexible, plus an alumni weekend held on the estate. No written discharge plan, no aftercare duration, no price or inclusion, and no post-discharge psychiatric review or medication management is published.
