Chief Physician, specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy
leadership
Triesenberg,
A purpose-built psychiatric and psychosomatic clinic at 1,483 metres above the Rhine Valley, built for exhaustion depression and run as medicine, not retreat.
Clinicum Alpinum publishes its day rates, which almost nobody in this segment does: CHF 1,075 a day private and CHF 930 a day semi-private, with suite surcharges of CHF 290 and CHF 435 a day. It is an inpatient psychiatric and psychosomatic clinic on the Gaflei plateau above Vaduz, opened in May 2019 and purpose-built to a healing-architecture brief of clay, wood and stone, electrically shielded rooms, no Wi-Fi and metal-free sleep systems.
The specialism is deliberately narrow: affective and stress-related illness with exhaustion depression at the centre, alongside anxiety, obsessive-compulsive conditions, trauma, personality disorders, sleep and somatoform disorders, psychosis and Long COVID. The clinic's own price list caps individual psychotherapy at twice a week for private and semi-private cover and sets group therapy as the standard non-individual format, with 18 to 22 therapy units a week across all formats reported in a 2020 interview with the then chief physician.
Accommodation is 48 single and double rooms plus 2 suites in one building. The clinic's hosted stay guide still offers double rooms to general-class cover with a single room on request, so the single-room-for-everyone claim that circulated in 2020 is not what its current documents say. Liechtenstein approved a TARPSY tariff agreement for inpatient psychiatric treatment in July 2022, and a cross-border agreement with a Swiss insurer took effect in October 2023. LIMES Schlosskliniken AG has held 51 per cent of the company since July 2023, and also holds 56 per cent of Paracelsus Recovery, which is ranked in this list.
Assessed: The clinic has a full assessment in this edition: all ten criteria scored, each with its reasoning, its sources with capture dates, and the gaps we could not close. It does not mean every fact is confirmed. How well the evidence holds up is shown by the confidence rating. What our labels mean
The clinic names its clinical team on its own team pages in four languages: five physicians, five psychologists and a nursing lead, alongside a clinic director and administrative staff.

Average 4 to 8 weeks, varying with the illness
CHF 930 to CHF 1,075 per day by insurance class
The core residential offer. An indication assessment by a physician precedes admission. Entry diagnostics cover psychiatric, test-psychological and psychosomatic assessment with laboratory work at entry, taking prior findings into account, and an individualised therapy plan starts at once. Therapies run Monday to Friday and are mandatory according to the plan, across individual, group, body, art, sound, movement and nature modalities, with a weekly chief-physician round and a weekly somatic round as needed. A therapy unit is normally 45 minutes of contact plus documentation. Laboratory work is repeated at discharge, closing the loop opened at entry.
Average 4 to 8 weeks
CHF 1,075 per day, suite surcharge CHF 290 per day
The private class buys clinical priority, not only comfort. It includes an indication assessment by the chief physician, chief-physician treatment as needed, a single room with full board, a programme weighted towards individual rather than group therapy, nutrition counselling included, a single seat in the restaurant's discretion area, and admission priority of one to two weeks per the clinic's 2023 price list. Individual psychotherapy is capped at twice a week, which is the ceiling rather than a guaranteed count.
Average 4 to 8 weeks
CHF 930 per day, suite surcharge CHF 435 per day
An indication assessment by a specialist physician rather than the chief physician, a single room with full board, a weekly chief-physician round, and individual psychotherapy capped at twice a week with the balance of the programme delivered in group format: art, sound, movement, nature, progressive muscle relaxation, talking group, ear acupuncture and mindfulness. A two-person table in the restaurant's discretion area. Admission priority of three to four weeks per the clinic's 2023 price list.
Individualised
Standard day rate by insurance class
A dedicated service for athletes at all performance levels, recognised by a German professional society as an extra-university centre for sports psychiatry and described as the first competence centre for mental health in sport in the region. It is positioned explicitly around maximum discretion, and covers performance anxiety, career-transition crisis and the affective consequences of elite competition.
Individualised
-
Inpatient treatment that allows a mother to be treated without separation from her child, aimed at maternal depression and related conditions. Neither a separate tariff nor a capacity figure for this pathway is published, so the practical scale of the offer cannot be established from public material.
Individualised
Standard day rate by insurance class
The same psychosomatic and psychotherapeutic framework applied to post-viral exhaustion and its cognitive and affective consequences, with laboratory diagnostics, in-house micronutrient formulation and graded movement therapy. It sits inside the published fields-of-treatment set rather than being sold as a separate product.
-
-
The clinic's own outpatient service at the same address, offering systemic, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy, specialist psychiatric and psychological diagnostics, crisis intervention, esketamine treatment, and ADHD and autism assessment, combinable with medication prescribed by the clinic's psychiatrists. It is offered expressly also following an inpatient stay, which makes it the step-down route inside the same operator. No duration, price or remote delivery is published.

-
Individualised intensive and preventive programmes sold to companies for executives and teams, delivered on site at Gaflei. No curriculum, duration or price is published.

The review base is close to empty rather than distorted. A Facebook page carries three reviews and no aggregate rating, which is below the threshold at which any average means anything. The Google profile could not be retrieved, so no rating or count is published here. No Trustpilot profile and no German-language clinic-review profile was found. There is no sign of manufactured reviews, no aggregator artefact and no misattribution. Liechtenstein publishes no equivalent of the Swiss national psychiatric quality dataset, so the structural-quality comparison available for Swiss clinics in this ranking cannot be made here. That is an absence of data, not a poor result. No outcome data of any kind is published by the clinic. An unattributed clinic-review badge reading "very good" appears on the homepage with no link and no named source. It is recorded as unresolved rather than as a violation.

Solid German-language coverage and no first-hand visit. A trade title covered the opening and later ran an on-record interview with the then chief physician; regional outlets covered the 2023 ownership change and the October 2024 leadership handover, both neutrally. A national daily's piece on the clinic during the pandemic is paywalled and could not be checked. No bylined reporting from inside the facility was found within five years.
None found. The sports-psychiatry recognition is a professional-society designation rather than an award, and a lighting-design award attaches to the building's lighting concept rather than to any clinical work.
Purpose-built and opened in 2019 on the Gaflei plateau at 1,483 metres above Vaduz, with views across the St Gallen Rhine Valley and the surrounding ranges. Forty-eight single and double rooms plus two suites in one building. The brief was a healing environment: clay, wood and stone, electrically shielded rooms, no Wi-Fi with LAN on request, metal-free natural sleep systems, Swiss stone pine room fans, and deliberate handling of light, colour, sound and orientation. Shared amenities include a swimming pool, an outdoor pool, a steam bath and sauna, fitness and movement rooms, the in-house restaurant, lounges and view terraces. The therapy area and the fitness and movement rooms sit on the lower floor. The building is fully wheelchair accessible and dogs are accommodated for a daily fee. Access is one mountain road and Zurich airport is roughly ninety minutes away. That remoteness is the clinic's strongest privacy asset and its clearest practical constraint: no travel time to the nearest emergency department is published, and no independent first-hand account of the premises was found.
Meals are taken in the ground-floor restaurant at fixed times, with no room service. The in-house restaurant, the Gaflei Stuba, carries a Switzerland Tourism listing and a changing seasonal menu, and opens to external guests on Friday evenings only, which keeps it a client space for the rest of the week. The restaurant has a discretion area offering a single seat for private cover and a two-person table for semi-private cover. Nutritional work is clinical rather than culinary, and thinly staffed. Nutrition counselling is sold by the hour and included for private cover, individual nutrition plans and intolerances are taken into account where indicated for private and semi-private cover, and dietary habits are discussed at the intake interview. Beyond that, no named nutrition professional, no assessment by one, no plan method, no monitoring during the stay and no nutrition education for life after discharge is published. The in-house pharmacy compounds custom micronutrient blends, described without a method based on the client's laboratory data. No named chef and no culinary credential were found.
one to one therapy
One-to-one therapy is established and a private single room is standard for private and semi-private cover. What is not established is separation from other clients. This is a clinic of roughly fifty beds at over 80 per cent occupancy in one building, with group therapy as the standard non-individual format for semi-private cover, shared meals at fixed times in one restaurant, and shared lounges, terraces, pool, sauna and fitness rooms. Admissions run on Mondays and Tuesdays and discharges on Thursdays and Fridays for everyone, through a shared lobby. There are no separate entrances and no dedicated team per client. The clinic makes no one-client-at-a-time claim, and its own price list distinguishes insurance classes. What is genuinely strong beyond statute: a written house rule forbidding clients to disclose fellow clients' names or information, group session content declared confidential, and visitors barred from client rooms and clinic areas and confined to the restaurant, reception and event room. A mountain plateau reached by one road, Liechtenstein jurisdiction and a discretion-led service for athletes add to that. No staff non-disclosure policy, code names, encrypted communications or unmarked vehicles are published, and no documented leak of a client stay and no press incident were found.
Headline basis: Public evidenceThe headline number is the public score, not the extended score., LROAS 1.0.0, edition 2026-10-01
Public-evidence total: 45
The sum of the ten criterion scores, from 10 to 100, using evidence anyone can check, including the clinic's own pages as self-declared statements. For the licence element of C2 only, it can also use an authority ruling held in our sealed evidence room. It is the only number used for the rank.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: medium. ProvisionalA check was still open when the edition closed, for example a register lookup or a video not yet received, or evidence under embargo.: C10.
The band rests on the occupancy model, not on a bed count. The stay guide offers double rooms to general-class cover and the price list sets group therapy as the standard non-individual format, with therapies mandatory. The clinic operates as one building with a shared restaurant at fixed times, shared pool and lounges, and common admission and discharge days, so no sole-occupancy tier exists. No one-client claim is made, so no ceiling or contradiction deduction applies.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: low
The clinic is listed on the Liechtenstein psychiatric hospital list valid from 1 January 2023, and a government release of 6 July 2022 approves its inpatient psychiatric tariff, which establishes the licence category. A chief physician who is a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy leads care, round-the-clock cover is stated with a background on-call physician service, and a general medicine physician runs a weekly somatic round. Band 7 needs three further elements and only overnight cover and non-psychiatric medical care are met: no on-site withdrawal management, no named escalation hospital route, no accreditation entry on an accreditor's register (ISO 9001 is only self-announced) and no defined complex-psychiatry programme.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: high
An indication assessment by a physician precedes admission, and psychiatric, test-psychological and psychosomatic diagnostics follow at the start of treatment, with guideline-based medication management and laboratory work at entry as needed. No physical examination on admission, no ECG or imaging in the residential pathway and no written diagnostic formulation for the client are published, which keeps the next band closed. EEG and neuropsychology appear only in the outpatient ADHD assessment.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: medium
The price list caps individual psychotherapy at at most twice a week for private and semi-private cover, which counts as one session a week because it is stated as an upper limit. One pooled clinical team serves the whole clinic, only the night nursing service is present overnight, and therapies run Monday to Friday with none at the weekend. The group share is not published, so no higher band is supported.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: high
An aftercare concept is developed with the client, with relapse prevention, early involvement of relatives, follow-up physicians and employer, medication for the first days after discharge and a discharge report. Step-down is available to the clinic's own outpatient service at the same address. No remote or home-country aftercare with a stated duration, frequency or price is published, so band 7 stays closed.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: medium
A sweep of the clinic's own and group domains found no ranking site tied to the clinic, no paid or fabricated recognition presented as editorial, and no text addressed to AI systems (/llms.txt returns 404). Day rates are published by insurance class (CHF 930 semi-private, CHF 1,075 private) with nothing stating the fee is negotiable, which is the one positive signal. No referral-fee position, published exclusion criteria or voluntary-admission statement exists, so the band above is not reached.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: medium
Itemised fee inclusions per insurance class are published, the legal entity Clinicum Alpinum AG is named with its commercial register number, and the privacy notice names the Liechtenstein data protection authority for complaints: three elements, band 4. No cancellation, refund or extension terms for the stay, no licence category on the imprint, no ownership disclosure (a group annual report records a 51 per cent holding the clinic does not state), no published inspection and no client-record retention period. No deductions apply.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: high
No final regulator, court or tribunal outcome against the operating entity and no pending allegation was found, and the clinic has operated since May 2019. No inspection record is published, no bylined first-hand visit within five years was found and fewer than two independent review platforms exist, so the standing elements that open higher bands are not met. This places the clinic in the not-published band.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: high
The criterion is the mean of a health and safety sub-band of 6 and a nutrition sub-band of 4. Treatment is on site with pool, sauna, fitness rooms, stated substance and medication rules, and a 24-hour emergency department at the Landesspital Liechtenstein about 16 minutes by road, a Leading Rehabs estimate against a verified destination. Health and safety stops at 6 because no resuscitation equipment or life-support training is published, alcohol is served to clients in the restaurant and no self-harm risk measures are published. Nutrition is capped because no named nutrition professional is published, although individual plans are accommodated.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: medium
A register-confirmed specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy leads clinical care and a senior physician's specialist title is confirmed, and the facility is on the national hospital list. Two claimed clinical-psychologist titles returned no match on the Austrian list, one physician's register title differs from the title the clinic publishes, and no verified doctorate or publication record exists. These gaps keep the clinic below band 4.
ProvisionalA check was still open when the edition closed, for example a register lookup or a video not yet received, or evidence under embargo.: Clinician register lookups for this criterion were still open at the edition cut-off (see known_gaps). The points count as assessed on the evidence available; the band may change when the lookups are completed, which is resolved in a later edition.
ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: medium
The clinic publishes its rates, which is rare in this segment. A private room is CHF 1,075 a day and a semi-private room CHF 930 a day, with suite surcharges of CHF 290 and CHF 435 a day respectively. A CHF 600 deposit is taken before treatment against personal incidentals, with the difference refunded or charged the day before discharge. Swiss and Liechtenstein health insurance may cover part of the base rate under the TARPSY tariff, and surcharges are paid by the client where insurance does not cover them. The itemised surcharge schedule, including a daily fee for a dog and charges for room changes and late check-out, rests on a price list dated 2023; the headline day rates were re-checked on the live tariff page in September 2026 and were unchanged.
Gafleistrasse 70, on the Gaflei plateau above Vaduz at 1,483 metres, in the municipality of Triesenberg in the Principality of Liechtenstein. Every room looks out over the St Gallen Rhine Valley and the surrounding ranges. Zurich airport is around ninety minutes by road and the Swiss border is minutes away. The site is deliberately remote: one mountain road up, no town within walking distance, hiking trails in every direction.
Adults with affective and stress-related illness, above all exhaustion depression, plus anxiety, obsessive-compulsive conditions, trauma, personality disorders, somatoform conditions, sleep disorders, psychosis and Long COVID. It is a German-language-region clinic first, with English, Italian and Russian also offered, and roughly seventy per cent of clients come from the immediate Liechtenstein, Swiss, Austrian and southern German region. There is a discretion-led service for athletes at all performance levels and a mother-and-child pathway that allows a mother to be treated without separation from her child. Addiction appears on staff credentials and as a comorbidity, not as a published programme, and the clinic publishes no withdrawal-management protocol.
You contact the admissions office, which arranges an indication assessment before admission: the chief physician does it for private cover, a specialist physician for semi-private and general cover. The clinic's 2023 price list publishes an admission priority order, one to two weeks for private cover and three to four weeks for semi-private, with emergencies and crisis interventions able to bypass it. Those waiting times appear only in that document, not on the live tariff page. Admissions run on Mondays and Tuesdays. On arrival you go through intensive psychiatric, test-psychological and psychosomatic diagnostics with laboratory work at entry, and an individualised therapy plan starts at once. Registration is possible either by self-registration or through a referrer.
An aftercare concept is developed with the client during the stay, with targeted relapse prevention, and the clinic involves the personal network, relatives, follow-up physicians and employer, early rather than at the end. Case management starts at admission and continues as needed. Discharge preparation is done with the client, medication is supplied for the first days after discharge where needed, and the client receives a discharge report. Continuity can run within the same operator: the clinic's own outpatient service at the same address offers psychotherapy, specialist psychiatric diagnostics and treatment and crisis intervention in a day setting, expressly also following an inpatient stay. No aftercare duration, schedule, price, structured contact of six months or more or remote delivery is published.
