About Amend Treatment

Amend Treatment holds twelve licensed places across two Malibu houses, both confirmed on the California state register: 6758 Wildlife Road and 6766 Portshead Road, each licensed for six as a Social Rehabilitation Facility running a short-term crisis residential programme, both to the same licensee. The clinic publishes both licence numbers on its own site, which is above the market norm, and markets six clients per house rather than the twelve it can hold at once. It admits for a primary mental health condition rather than for addiction: depression including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and co-occurring presentations, with substance misuse accepted only as secondary. It runs no detox and holds no California substance use disorder licence, so a client needing medically managed withdrawal has to be stabilised elsewhere first. Clinical intensity is high for a house of this size, with up to five individual sessions a week, daily group work and psychiatry, and the modality list is unusually broad: EMDR, ketamine and esketamine, deep transcranial magnetic stimulation, qEEG brain mapping and neurofeedback alongside music, art, drama, equine and improv therapy. One team page serves both houses, with one medical director, one clinical director and one therapist pool. Insurance is out-of-network PPO only.

Clinic overview

Founded
The Better Business Bureau records a business start date of 2 June 2021, and the first state residential licence for the brand at Wildlife Road was issued on 20 May 2022. The current licences for both houses date from 18 April 2024, after a change of ownership. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Capacity
Twelve clients at once, across two houses of six. Both licences are confirmed on the state register at capacity 6 each. The clinic markets a six-client maximum per house, which is the per-house figure rather than the total.
Licence
Two current state licences, each for a Social Rehabilitation Facility running a short-term crisis residential programme with capacity 6, both first licensed on 18 April 2024 to the same licensee. The clinic holds no state substance use disorder licence, which matches its position as a mental health provider rather than a detox facility.
Accreditations
The clinic names The Joint Commission, both as an accreditor and as a complaints body. No accreditation record for the clinic could be retrieved, so the claim is recorded as unconfirmed. LegitScript certification is stated by the clinic. The two state licences are recorded under Licence rather than here. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Payment and insurance
Out-of-network PPO plans only. The clinic states plainly that it does not accept Medicare, Medicaid, Kaiser, HMO or EPO plans, so most clients pay privately and claim a partial reimbursement.
Length of stay
The clinic asks clients to commit to a minimum stay of 30 days and states that many extend to 45 to 60 days. The published unit is a personalised four-week treatment plan.

Residential mental health programme

Minimum 30 days, many clients extend to 45 to 60 days

-

The core offering. A thorough assessment on admission produces a personalised plan, then up to five one-to-one therapy sessions a week, daily group and experiential work, psychiatry and medication management, family sessions, and 24-hour on-site support, delivered in a six-client house with a private en-suite bedroom for each client.

Interventional psychiatry and neuromodulation

Delivered inside the residential stay

Neurofeedback is charged as an additional treatment cost

Deep transcranial magnetic stimulation, ketamine and esketamine, guided by qEEG brain mapping and neuropsychological assessment, with neurofeedback as an adjunct. The clinic is explicit that a qEEG report does not diagnose anything on its own. This is its clearest clinical difference from the surrounding Malibu addiction market.

Virtual intensive outpatient programme

12 to 16 weeks

-

A remote step-down and standalone option running 12 to 16 weeks, with two clinician-led group sessions of four hours a week directed by a team of licensed therapists, plus individual or family sessions. It is the clinic's published route for continuing care after a residential stay.

Our assessment

The review base is real but fragmented. A Google business profile at the Wildlife Road address shows 4.6 from 65 reviews, a commercial directory mirrors the same figures, and another reports 4.6 from 73, so the true independent count is lower than the sum of the platforms. One smaller platform shows 3.0 from 8 reviews, which is the single materially negative signal on a small sample. Duplicate business pages at overlapping addresses on one review site fragment the record further. A Better Business Bureau profile carries a B- rating, not accredited, with the downgrade recorded as failure to respond to one complaint. The state licensing record is the substantive part of the track record, and it is mixed. Annual inspections in April 2025 at both houses recorded no deficiencies, and the April 2026 annual inspection at Portshead House recorded no citations. Separately, complaint investigations at Portshead House in February and March 2026 substantiated two Type B matters, an unreported emergency room visit and an eviction notice not given in writing, and an investigation on 28 April 2026 substantiated a Type A finding that medication was not provided as prescribed, with a second allegation unsubstantiated. At Wildlife House, a visit on 28 April 2026 recorded a Type A finding on medication records and a Type B finding that an incident of 3 April 2026 had not been reported. Plans of correction were required. The appeal status of the 2026 citations could not be retrieved, and citations against the previous licensee of the Wildlife Road address are a different legal entity and are not counted here. The only press located is paid release distribution rather than journalism. No awards were found.

The only coverage located is paid press-release distribution carried on a wire service and syndicated onward, which is placement rather than journalism. No first-hand bylined reporting from inside either house was found, and there is no coverage naming any client.

No awards were found. The clinic's own pages claim outcome results in the top 5 to 15 percent among premier residential treatment centres nationwide in 2025, with no named source for the comparison.

Facility

Two private houses on the Malibu coastline, on different streets, each licensed for six clients. Wildlife House at 6758 Wildlife Road is a three-storey contemporary residence with six en-suite bedrooms, including a master suite with a soaking tub, rainfall shower and private balcony, and a cottage room with a private balcony. Outside there is a swimming pool, a full-sized tennis court with a basketball hoop, a tree house, and patios and decks on tree-lined grounds. On-site coordinators are available around the clock. Portshead House at 6766 Portshead Road is a secluded home between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific, with six en-suite rooms, several with French doors to garden terraces, balconies, ocean views and a master room with a reading nook and a sunken tub, plus a pool, courtyards and gardens. Both houses share a family room, living room, dining areas and kitchen. On the record and worth knowing: a January 2026 licensing visit to Wildlife House recorded that an office had been converted into a bedroom while the fire clearance covered five bedrooms, cited as a Type B deficiency. No gym and no spa building is published for either house, and no independent tour exists. A third house licensed in 2023 has since closed on a change of location.

Food

Food sits at leadership level here: a Director of Hospitality and Executive Chef is named on the leadership roster, supported by a second chef, which is unusual and is a real signal that catering is treated as part of the programme rather than as back-of-house. The clinic describes chef-prepared meals customised to dietary needs, and states that it offers a wellness assessment and nutritional screening. Against that: no dietitian or nutrition professional appears on the published roster, no personalised nutrition plan, dietary testing or monitoring during the stay is published, and no gourmet credential is published for either chef. Menus and kitchen hygiene standards are not described publicly.

Privacy

one to one therapy

What is established: every bedroom in both houses is private and en suite, each house is licensed for six, and the two licensed addresses sit on different streets, which gives the operator a real tool for keeping two particular clients apart that a single-house competitor does not have. Both houses are unbranded private residences on quiet streets, the clinic does not detox, and it does not bill in network, so there is no acute-withdrawal traffic and no in-network utilisation review. What is established against it: this is not a one-client model. Within a house, contact is unavoidable, with daily group therapy, multi-family group sessions where families share a room, shared dining, a shared family room, living room and kitchen, and a shared pool. The two houses are not shown to be sealed from each other: one team page serves the whole organisation, with a single medical director, clinical director, programme director, weekend director and overnight lead, and no separate schedule, group programme or therapist roster is published for the second house. The practical exposure is a twelve-client community with staff moving between two addresses. What is not established: any NDA policy, photography policy, electronics policy, arrival or departure protocol, or policy on public figures. The admissions page offers a confidential first conversation and links a standard privacy notice, and that is the whole of what is published on discretion.

Public-evidence total: 42

The sum of the ten criterion scores, from 10 to 100, using evidence anyone can check, including the clinic's own pages as self-declared statements. For the licence element of C2 only, it can also use an authority ruling held in our sealed evidence room. It is the only number used for the rank.

C1 Client separation and occupancy · 2

The clinic runs two houses, each marketed for six clients with shared living areas, and daily therapy includes group therapy. A clinic post describes private and semi-private rooms, and the state regulator's report of the 7 January 2026 visit records an approved layout with a shared bedroom, so all-private bedrooms are not established and band 3 is not reached. Shared bedrooms at some tier with group work at the core give band 2. There is no separate sole-occupancy tier, and one team serves both houses; the per-house figure of six clients is not a contradiction, so no deduction applies.

ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: high

Known gapsFacts the assessment needed but could not establish.:
  • Room occupancy is conflicting: the current house page describes six en-suite bedrooms, while a clinic post and the regulator report indicate shared rooms.

  • Amend Treatment: A clinic post about the first house refers to spacious private and semi-private rooms with private baths, and to only six residents per house.
  • Amend Treatment: The programme page describes daily therapy featuring both one-to-one counselling and group therapy, and the locations page describes one close-knit team caring for a select group of six clients per house across two houses.
C2 Clinical governance and medical cover · 6

Both houses, 6758 Wildlife Road and 6766 Portshead Road, are licensed on the California Community Care Licensing register as Social Rehabilitation Facilities running a short-term crisis residential programme, and the Medical Director is a psychiatrist. The Joint Commission's accredited-organisations list includes both houses, with a decision effective 9 May 2026, and a defined bipolar disorder programme is published, giving two further elements and band 6. Band 7 would need a third: no night physician or nurse cover, on-site detox, physician non-psychiatric care or named escalation hospital is published.

  • Amend Treatment: A condition page describes 24-hour clinical support and monitoring by licensed professionals, daily individual and group therapy, and medication management under close supervision, for clients with recurrent episodes and self-harm risk.
C3 Diagnostic depth on admission · 5

Three elements are published: a psychiatric evaluation at intake, psychiatrist-led medication management, and psychological testing with qEEG brain mapping available, alongside a biopsychosocial review. No laboratory panel, physical examination by a physician, written diagnostic formulation for the client or clinical screening before commitment is published, which keeps the clinic at band 5.

Sources (3 cited items):
  • Amend Treatment: The medication management page states that intake includes psychological testing, a psychiatric evaluation and a full biopsychosocial review, with medication managed by an experienced lead psychiatrist.
  • Amend Treatment: The qEEG page states that a full qEEG report does not diagnose anything on its own but provides insight, and that neurofeedback is available as an additional treatment cost.
  • Amend Treatment: The admissions process is published in three phases, an informational consultation, insurance verification and electronic paperwork before arrival, and the programme page states that each client undergoes a thorough assessment on admission.
C4 Clinical intensity · 3

One condition page states up to five one-to-one sessions a week, with no typical or minimum figure, so it is counted at the midpoint of 2.5. One team and roster serve both houses rather than a dedicated team per client, no group share is published, and no clinician stays overnight in the residence. The 30-day minimum stay is a request that often extends to 45 to 60 days rather than a fixed package, so no cap applies.

  • Amend Treatment: One team page serves both houses, including a single Lead Overnight Clinical Assistant, and the first house page states that on-site coordinators are available around the clock.
C5 Continuity and aftercare · 7

Six elements are evidenced, including a defined step-down: a personalised aftercare plan written with the client, a joint aftercare plan coordinated with the referring professional before discharge, and a 12 to 16 week virtual intensive outpatient programme led by the clinic's own licensed therapists. No aftercare price or inclusion statement, post-discharge psychiatric review, supportive living option or clinician-run contact of six months or more is published, which keeps the clinic below band 8.

Sources (3 cited items):
  • Amend Treatment: The programme page states that the clinical team collaborates closely with each client to create a personalised aftercare plan.
  • Amend Treatment: The referring professionals page states that before discharge the clinic coordinates a joint aftercare plan for the client's return to the referrer's care or to its own intensive outpatient programme, with updates and progress summaries during treatment.
  • Amend Treatment: The virtual intensive outpatient programme runs 12 to 16 weeks with two weekly four-hour clinician-led group sessions directed by licensed therapists, plus individual or family sessions, serving continuing care after residential treatment.
C6 Admission integrity and commercial conduct · 3

The clinic's own site carries a page headed Top 10 Residential Mental Health Treatment Centers in the U.S. that ranks the clinic first ahead of nine named competitors, with no byline and no disclosure, which is a self-ranking violation. No residential price, referral-fee position or voluntary-admission rule is published; the eating disorder referral note is a statement of limits scored under transparency, not an admission-declining policy here. One violation with fewer than three positive signals gives band 3.

C7 Transparency toward the client · 4

Three elements are met: both state licence numbers are published, complaints are routed to The Joint Commission and Community Care Licensing, and the eating disorder page states that clients with a primary eating disorder are referred elsewhere and that the clinic is neither a rehab nor a hospital. No fee inclusions, deposit, refund, extension or early-departure terms are published. The licensee, a holding company, is not named on the clinic's site and no ownership is disclosed, no inspection results are linked and no data controller or retention period is stated. Three elements give band 4 with no contradiction deduction.

ConfidenceHow well the evidence supports the score.: high

Sources (4 cited items):
  • Amend Treatment: The transparency statement publishes both licence numbers and routes complaints to leadership, to The Joint Commission or to Community Care Licensing, with links.
  • Amend Treatment: The privacy policy names the clinic as owner and operator of the site and gives both house addresses, with a separate notice of privacy practices, no retention period and no effective date.
  • ccld.dss.ca.gov: The licensee of both current licences is a holding company whose name does not appear on the clinic's own website.
  • Amend Treatment: The eating disorder treatment page states that a client whose primary diagnosis is an eating disorder is referred to other residential eating disorder programmes, and describes the clinic as a mental health facility, neither a rehab nor a hospital.
C8 Track record and regulator standing · 4

State licensing reports substantiated findings against the licensee within five years: Type B findings in January, February and March 2026, a Type A finding at the second house on 28 April 2026 that medication was not provided as prescribed, and Type A and Type B findings at the first house on the same date. These are moderate findings, since no fine, licence action or finding of death or serious harm is stated. No later regulator inspection stands after the most serious finding, and the Joint Commission decision is an accreditor decision rather than a regulator inspection, so the clinic sits at band 4. Unsubstantiated allegations and the BBB complaint are not scored as findings.

The score is the mean of the setting sub-score (4) and the nutrition sub-score (3), 3.5 rounded up to 4. The setting meets three elements: pools, courts, gardens and terraces at both houses, provision for family, and both addresses confirmed as licensed premises. The nearest verified emergency department, Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, is about 34 minutes by road from 6758 Wildlife Road, above the 30-minute threshold, and no emergency readiness or medication policy is published. The Medical Director is confirmed on the specialty board register as certified in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry, and the team includes a licensed clinical neuropsychologist, eight therapists, a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner. Both entry gates are met. Depth is thin beyond that: no verified doctorate, no university appointment and no publication record, which keeps the clinic at band 4.

No price appears anywhere on the clinic's own site, and the insurance verification page discusses private-pay options without publishing a figure. No fee inclusions, deposit, refund, extension or early-departure terms are published either, and neurofeedback is described as an additional treatment cost on top of the programme. The clinic accepts only PPO plans with out-of-network benefits and states plainly that it does not accept Medicare, Medicaid, Kaiser, HMO or EPO plans, so most clients pay privately and claim back a partial reimbursement. Establish the total cost, what it includes and what is charged separately in writing before admission.

Where is it and how many clients are there?

Two licensed houses on the Malibu coastline: Wildlife House at 6758 Wildlife Road and Portshead House at 6766 Portshead Road, each licensed by the California Department of Social Services for six clients. The total concurrent capacity is therefore twelve, not the six that the per-house marketing implies, and both houses are run by one clinical team. Both are unbranded private residences on quiet streets, roughly an hour from Los Angeles International Airport. A third house licensed in 2023 has since closed on a change of location.

Who is it designed for?

Adults admitted for a primary mental health condition: depression including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and personality-related presentations, with substance misuse accepted only as a co-occurring issue. The clinic holds no California substance use disorder licence and runs no detox, so anyone needing medically managed withdrawal must be stabilised elsewhere first. The interventional psychiatry offering, deep transcranial magnetic stimulation with ketamine and esketamine guided by qEEG mapping and neuropsychological assessment, suits clients who have not responded to standard medication and talk therapy.

How does admission work?

In three published phases: an informational consultation, insurance verification, and electronic completion of the paperwork before arrival. On admission the clinic states that each client has a thorough assessment, and its medication management page describes intake as including psychological testing, a psychiatric evaluation and a full biopsychosocial review, with medication managed by the lead psychiatrist. No waiting time is published by the clinic or anywhere else, and with twelve licensed places across two houses availability is date-specific and should be confirmed directly.

What happens after discharge?

The clinical team writes a personalised aftercare plan with the client before discharge, and where a client came through a referring professional the clinic states that it coordinates a joint aftercare plan and provides progress updates during treatment. The main step-down is the clinic's own virtual intensive outpatient programme, which runs 12 to 16 weeks with two clinician-led group sessions of four hours a week plus individual or family sessions. No alumni programme, sober-living pathway or outcome data is published.
