About Alta Mira Recovery Programs

Alta Mira is a residential addiction and co-occurring disorders programme in a converted historic hotel on a Sausalito hillside, on one campus at one licensed address. Its structure is diagnostic first: a history and physical within 24 hours, a psychiatric evaluation within 48 hours, comprehensive neuropsychological testing and a written report of diagnostic impressions, which then feeds evidence-based psychotherapy, medically supervised detoxification, medication management and a heavy experiential and adventure component using the Marin Headlands and the Bay. It is a mid-size group-therapy environment rather than a single-client model. Room types run from a double room with a shared bath to a private suite, and clients eat together in a community dining room. The clinic publishes an unusual amount about its clinicians, including licence numbers on several profiles, and an unusual amount less about itself: no capacity figure, no state licence number, and no statement of who owns it. The public record puts it inside Constellation Behavioral Health, acquired by the private-equity firm New MainStream Capital in May 2016, and the parent's corporate site is being retired. Unusually for this price level, the clinic is in network with two insurers and works out-of-network benefits with most major carriers, so the resident population mixes insurance-funded and private-pay clients.

Clinic overview

Founded
Unresolved. The 2016 acquisition release describes the parent group as established in 2010, while commercial directories give 2007. The clinic publishes no founding year of its own.
Capacity
30 beds in one 30,000 square foot building at a single licensed address. The figure comes from a 2016 corporate acquisition release, not from the clinic, which publishes no capacity figure, and not from a licensing register, which was not retrievable. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Staff per client
The clinic states a clinical staff-to-client ratio of approximately 1:2 during the day, 1:3 in the evenings and 1:6 overnight.
Licence
The clinic states that it is licensed by the California Department of Health Care Services to operate an adult residential alcohol and drug programme with co-occurring disorders. It publishes no licence number, and the state register was not retrievable, so the class rests on the clinic's own statement. UnverifiedStated by the clinic, not yet confirmed by an independent source
Accreditations
The CARF International provider directory lists the operating entity at this address as certified for ASAM Level of Care 3.5 and Level of Care 3.7. A Joint Commission provider locator entry for the operating entity was confirmed through the search index only, because the page refuses automated access. NAATP membership and LegitScript certification are stated by the clinic.
Payment and insurance
In network with Kaiser Permanente and TriWest, with out-of-network PPO benefits worked with most major carriers. The clinic states that government-issued insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, Medi-Cal and Tricare other than TriWest, does not cover treatment at the facility.
Length of stay
The clinic asks new clients to commit to a stay of 30 days. A 30 to 90 day range is reported by third parties and is not published by the clinic.
Address
125 Bulkley Avenue, Sausalito, United States

Ongoing

Included in the treatment price

A long-term continuing care plan built before discharge, followed by weekly virtual relapse prevention and process groups, quarterly two-day tune-ups and alumni events, regular check-ins with an Alumni Coordinator and an app. Meetings are facilitated and supported by the clinic's own staff rather than handed off.

Intensive outpatient programme

-

-

Treatment continues in the clinic's own intensive outpatient programme after a client leaves the campus. The clinic publishes no session pattern, no duration and no price for it, so it should be established explicitly before admission rather than assumed to be part of the residential fee.

Our assessment

The review base is genuine but modest and thinly spread, with no single authoritative count. No reliable Google rating or count was obtained, which is itself a gap for a 30-bed United States facility. A Yelp listing at the address exists but refuses automated access, so no star rating could be captured. Ratings that could be seen cluster from the high threes to the mid fours, which reads as honest rather than managed, and no evidence of manipulation was found in either direction. An anonymous reputation-complaint aggregator hosts a page carrying an allegation against the clinic. It is unverified and unadjudicated, the site has no editorial standards, and no regulatory action, court filing or news report corroborating it was found. It is recorded here only because a prospective client will see it. No substantive independent journalism about the clinic was located, and no first-hand bylined reporting from inside the facility was found.

Facility

A converted historic hotel at 125 Bulkley Avenue on a Sausalito hillside, with gardens and terraces overlooking San Francisco Bay and the city skyline. A 2016 corporate release gives 30,000 square feet and 30 beds; the clinic itself publishes neither figure. The campus page describes private detox rooms and then four separate recovery residences offering double-occupancy rooms, private rooms and private suites, alongside a shared dining room, lounge areas, therapy offices and meeting rooms. Room types sold are a double room with a shared bath, a private room with a private bath, and a private suite. Adventure programming uses the surrounding Marin Headlands, Bay waters and coastline under a named Experiential Program Manager, and pet-friendly options are available. Not published: any capacity figure from the clinic, any per-residence occupancy figure, any arrival or departure separation, and any independent tour or inspection record. Service-area pages for nearby towns point back to this single campus and claim no other site.

Food

Three buffet-style meals a day in a community dining room shared with other residents. On arrival a client meets the Nutritionist and the Executive Chef to go through food preferences, restrictions, special dietary needs and allergies, and the clinic states that menus are created with the clinical nutrition therapist, with gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free options marked. A Culinary Service Manager sits on the published staff list, so catering is an internal function rather than an outsourced one, and a full kitchen appears among the facility amenities. Not published: the names and credentials of the chef and the nutrition professional, any nutrition assessment protocol, any monitoring of nutrition during the stay, any dietary or micronutrient testing, and any kitchen hygiene rating. Gourmet claims come from directory listings rather than from the clinic.

Privacy

one to one therapy

What is established: individual psychotherapy, at least two and on one page three individual sessions a week with a primary therapist, and a stated clinical staff-to-client ratio of about 1:2 by day. That is the strongest separation level the clinic reaches. What is established against it: 30 beds in one converted hotel building. The entry room type is a double room with a shared bath, so a client at the base rate may share a bedroom. Daily group sessions, two-day intensive workshops and peer support groups are core to the programme, meals are taken together in a community dining room, and experiential outings take clients into public spaces in groups. Visiting hours are fixed for all clients on Sunday afternoons. What is not established: any arrival or departure separation, any staggered admission, any photography or electronics policy framed as protecting other clients, any client-to-client anonymity statement, and any confidentiality mechanism beyond the statutory privacy notice. In-network insurance participation also means clinical information about a named client is transmitted to a payer for utilisation review, and the clinic's own site does not tell a client which corporate group ultimately holds their records.

C1 Client separation and occupancy · 2

The entry room tier is a double room with a shared bath, and the residential programme includes daily group sessions, workshops and peer support groups with a shared community dining room. Shared bedrooms sold as a tier with group work at the core place the clinic in band 2. The private room and private suite are private bedrooms inside a shared campus of four recovery residences, so they are not a sole-occupancy tier and do not lift the band. The state licence confirms one licence covering several addresses on the shared campus, and no capacity deduction applies because the clinic makes no capacity or single-client claim.

Three elements are met: an all-inclusive fee statement listing inclusions, a complaints route to the Executive Director or the federal health department, and a statement of limits (detox outside a hospital setting, not primarily a medical or psychiatric facility, and government insurance limits). No refund, cancellation, early-departure or extension terms are published. The homepage points to the state regulator's website without a licence number or register link, the Terms of Use name only the parent as website operator while the licensed entity is not identified with registration details, ownership is not disclosed, and no inspection results or retention period are published. Searches of federal court records and the open web found no final regulator, court or tribunal finding against the operating entity within ten years. Frequently asked questions

What does treatment at Alta Mira cost?

The clinic's own San Francisco location page states that the residential programme is approximately USD 3,500 per day, and its FAQ says the price depends on admitting diagnosis, length of stay, withdrawal symptoms and accommodation, with clients responsible for payment on admission. No rate card or per-programme price is published. The fee is described as all-inclusive, covering clinical treatment, accommodation, meals, a number of massages, yoga, personal training and acupuncture sessions, and the continuing care and alumni programmes, with detox included in the treatment price. Third-party figures separating a shared room from a private room circulate but are not published by the clinic. Because the clinic is in network with two insurers and works out-of-network benefits with most major carriers, the effective cost varies widely by payer.

Where is it?

At 125 Bulkley Avenue in Sausalito, Marin County, California, in a converted historic hotel on a hillside with views over San Francisco Bay and the city skyline. It is a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco and its airports, and the Marin Headlands, Bay waters and coastal beaches used by the experiential programme are immediately outside. One campus, one licensed address. Service-area pages for nearby towns all point back to this site.

Who is it designed for?

Adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, with particular weight on chronic relapse and on clients who arrive carrying a diagnosis that has never been properly tested. That is why the assessment phase, with a psychiatric evaluation, an addiction-medicine review and comprehensive neuropsychological testing, is the most distinctive part of the programme. Because it is a 30-bed campus with daily group work, a shared dining room and insurance participation, it suits a client whose first requirement is clinical depth rather than one whose first requirement is anonymity.

How does admission work?

Through the clinic's admissions line, with insurance benefits verified during the call. Medically supervised detoxification is available on site under 24-hour nursing and an addiction medicine specialist, so a client can be admitted directly in withdrawal without a separate detox placement. A history and physical follows within 24 hours and a psychiatric evaluation within 48 hours, and a psychiatrist is assigned to the client for the stay and is on call around the clock for medical and psychiatric emergencies. The clinic asks new clients to commit to a stay of 30 days. No waiting time is published.

What happens after discharge?

The multidisciplinary team sets up a long-term continuing care plan before the client leaves, and the treatment fee covers the continuing care and alumni programmes. Alumni support includes weekly virtual relapse prevention and process groups, quarterly two-day tune-ups and events, regular check-ins with an Alumni Coordinator, an app and continued access to the Family Program. Treatment can continue in the clinic's intensive outpatient programme after discharge. Where a client came through a referring professional, the clinic states that it collaborates on discharge planning and refers back for follow-up. No outcome or long-term abstinence data is published.
