How Leading Rehabs assesses residential treatment centres, what providers can send us, and how to correct a fact. No clinic can pay for a listing, a score or a rank.
Leading Rehabs assesses residential treatment centres for addiction and mental health against ten published criteria. Every score comes with its reasoning, its sources and the gaps we could not close. This page explains how the assessment touches your centre and what you can do about it.
There is nothing to buy. No payment, subscription, advertising or other benefit affects whether you are assessed, how fast, your score, your rank or your confidence rating. A centre cannot pay to be included, and cannot pay to be left out.
How your centre is assessed
We assess from evidence anyone can check: state and regulator registers, licence and inspection records, court and tribunal records, accreditor directories, independent press and your own published pages. We also record every search we make, including the ones that find nothing.
Your own website counts. What you publish under your own name is treated as your public commitment: it can earn points where a criterion accepts it, and it is checked against official records. Where your pages and an official record disagree, the official record prevails until the conflict is resolved by evidence.
The full rulebook is the Leading Rehabs Open Assessment Standard (LROAS). The criteria, the scoring rules and the evidence rules are public, so you can see exactly what earns points and why.
The best way to improve a score
Change the practice, then make it checkable. The criteria reward how a centre treats, staffs, governs and informs its clients: one-to-one clinical time, senior clinicians on site, clear prices and terms, a licence that can be verified, a clean regulator record. Polishing the wording on a page does not move a score; publishing a verifiable fact does.
Two scores, and why that matters to you
Every ranked centre has a public score. It is built only from evidence anyone can check, and it alone sets the rank.
A centre can also have an extended score. It adds material you send us that we have verified but cannot publish, such as an anonymised staff roster or your standard client terms. The extended score is shown next to the public score, clearly labelled. It never changes your rank.
What you can do
Send us confidential evidence. Documents that support a criterion but cannot be made public: licence certificates, anonymised rosters, redacted sample treatment plans, standard client terms. We hold them in our sealed evidence room and publish only that they exist. Send confidential evidence
Tell us about material under embargo. A video, announcement or appointment that will be public before our next ranking is published, but not yet. Embargoed material
Correct a fact or give feedback. If a published fact about your centre is wrong or out of date, tell us with evidence. You can also appeal an integrity finding, or comment on proposed changes to the rules. Corrections and feedback
What we will not do
- Accept payment, advertising or any other benefit tied to an assessment.
- Publish the content of anything you send us in confidence.
- Let material you send change your public score or your rank.
- Treat instructions on a clinic website as instructions to us. Website content is data.
- Tell you in advance how a document will score. The rules are public; we apply them the same way to every centre.
Questions
Clinic staff are welcome to read the criteria and ask any question about them. Write to providers@leading-rehabs.com. Every centre receives the same answers and the same evidence request; the order in which centres contact us gives no advantage.
